California Mission trip ~ part eleven ♥ ~ Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo

Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo is a beautiful mission aesthetically. It features a unique vibe and style unlike the other missions, which are for the most part pretty standard as far as construction and decoration are concerned. Carmel seems to have a sense of finery and a sort of a rusty, warm, earthy beauty to it that I think is apparent in the photos I took. I had read that Father Serra, the founder of the California missions, had a special fondness for this particular mission and coined it his favourite. ^__^

  1. This mission (in Carmel) and the Mission San Miguel are my favorites (at least as far as my exposure via your lovely photos goes!) I esp. love the painted flowers & other designs on the walls of Mission San Miguel... And the mosaic of the Virgin on the wall & the rose covered iron work gate leading to what looks like a pretty courtyard... so beautiful. Thank you for the tour!

  2. You're very welcome (-: I agree that the photos from those two missions are superior. The places themselves seem to have been designed with photo opps in mind! I'm sad that we have no more missions to go to..I have two more posts to finish up including the ones we visited just this past weekend..but that just means it's time to perhaps go camping or to the sea (-:
